Title: Japanese Car and Motorcycle Show, Brookline, MA 8/16/09
Post by: phactory on August 09, 2009, 11:16:03 AM
This coming Sunday the Museum of Transportation at Larz Anderson Park will host the 3rd Annual Japanese Car and Motorcycle Show on the lawn at the Larz Anderson Museum. I will definitely be there on my CB750K1 and a bunch of us from the NE Honda guys are planning on attending. It is always a good take! Come bring your Japanese iron!

Phil

Please take some photos for those of us who have to settle for actually being in Japan rather than attending a Japanese show  ;) ;D

Have fun!
Good luck Phil with the K1 - can you make it a double?

cheers
Andy

Andy,

Hi! I will definitely take some pictures and if I could, that would be cool. Though I certainly wasn't expecting it last year! The K1 is AWESOME! Yesterday I put the NOS HM300 exhaust and NOS seat on, while Ben was here picking up the SV650, he bought for his son.

I then took it out for a ride and thought it sounded and felt a little soft, after riding about 300 miles with the old original exhaust. I went back home, pulled out the baffles and easily removed the baffle packing material. I started it up and THINK that it is much better, but I won't know until I take it for a real ride.

The seat and exhaust look AWESOME! It is such a great bike to ride!

Have fun in Japan!! At least for a couple more weeks!!  ;D

Phil

I'm 80% sure I'll be at this show & shine, even if I'm lacking on the "shine" side of things.

I'm expecting to be present too, but certainly lacking in Show and Shine as usual.   :)

Nice 350 Four! I always liked those bikes, though haven't found one as clean as yours!

See you there!! My K1 is Candy Gold. Come on up and say hi!

If anyone wants to meet up and ride into Brookline I'd be up for it.  Some of you guys have my number, otherwise reply here and we'll set something up.
See you there otherwise.
-Alan

I might go to this thing tomorrow instead of my original plans. I dislocated my shoulder again at hockey the other night, so a 12 hour off road adventure is not in the cards this week. I did ride around in the steam today for 2-3 hours, so I should be ok to stare at chrome for a couple hours tomorrow.
What time you planning on being in the neighborhood Alan?
Chris

I am leaving my house around 9am and heading up 495N to 95N to 138 and then head in the back way. Give me a shout (or a PM) in the am if you want to meet up and ride in that way.

Phil

Unfortunately my bike isn't starting on me so I'm unable to fulfill my registration that I already paid for.  :-\

A lot of that going around... I just woke up to a puddle of brake fluid beneath each caliper.  Gotta love old iron!

Sounds good Phil I'd like that.  How's about I get myself to this parking lot on 138 just north of 93 by Blue Hills?  PM sent.

Chris, wanna meet up with us there too?  Sometime between 9 and say 9:30? PM also sent.

I might be wrong, but I think there's a DunkinD's/Baskin Robbins about 50 yds before that p-lot. I'll try and aim for that by 9,9:15.
PS, I was going to ride the K2, but I sold it yesterday. Details to follow.
Chris

I usually meet up with people in the Blue Hills Ski area Parking lot, which is on the right after you get off of 128. I'll be looking for you guys!

Well, it was nice seeing Phil, Alan and the dozen or so bikes that had showed up amongst the 280Z's, Nissan Pathfinders, and souped up Civic's. The real show was on the outside where the Beemer's, Ducati's, Nighthawks and Vstroms parked.  ;D
I've got some video and pics to post, but I might Armor-all the tires on the Scion and head back over and see if I can't win a prize.  ;)
PS, if I was judging... nicest Honda would be a tossup between Phil's K1 and the CBX, and the overall would probably go to the guy with the Kawi H2, only because I know what a nightmare it is to keep that in running shape.
Later,
Chris

I'm sorry I missed Chris and Alan, but also got to see Phil, his bike looked great but I hope it wasn't the only SOHC 750k there.
Pretty weak show as far as I could tell.
Congrats on selling your bike Chris!

Yeah, I gotta apologize. What a WEAK show! I talked to the guy running it and NEXT year I will be doing the bike portion, so it should be LOTS better!!

It was great seeing all of you New England Honda Guys too!

The CBX was okay, but it didn't have the stock exhaust, seat or air box, plus it was a repaint. There are much nicer examples out there!

The guy with the HS didn't win because he didn't RIDE it there!!! There was another HS that rode in from Rhode Island so I gave the nod to him.

Oh well let's make next year a MUCH better show!

Cheers, Phil

Yeah, I know the CBX wasn't completely stock, but I know how hard it is to keep one of those running, too. And parts are a bee-atch to acquire.750's are easy. I'd actually give the guy with the brandy-new Vmax a prize because it was the nicest yami i saw.
Chris

Yeah Ben t'would have been good to see you, we'll catch up at beer night.

Very cool Phil, count me in for next year.  My bike should be done by then...     :-\

What is so hard about keeping one of those running? Just because it has 2 extra carbs? Piece o cake as long as evevrything is clean and set up correctly!! I know where there is a PRISTINE 1980 one in the same red, just gotta be able to pry it out of the guy's hands...

I actually talked to the show's organizer about acquiring his Moto Guzzi!!  Stay tuned!!  ;D

I understood it was shimming all of those valves with the engine out of the frame that was the big hassle, imagine a 6-cyl CBX with the hydraulic valves, camchain tensioner and redline of a CB700SC?

Well, I'm glad I didn't miss a lot from the show. I was really pissed that I couldn't go. It would have been nice to see you all, but beer night is coming soon ;D

Congrats on selling the bike Chris!

Cheers to all,
Peter
