I am looking for another bike and have about $2500 to spend.  I have been looking at a couple of Kawa Councours' and am really digging those.  The other bike I have happened upon is a Honda Pacific Coast.  It looks like a smaller version of the goldwing and has a dead reliable shadow v-twin hidding in all its plastic glory.  Does anyone have any thoughts?

You can't go wrong with either. altho $2500 might not get the nicest.
Also look for the Honda ST1100. They switched to the 1300 around '03-'04, but you could get a '94 or '95 for the money you are talking.
Later,
Chris

That is one ugly bike but...I met a guy in Colorado who rode one year round and put 100,000s miles on it...seemed all he did was ride all the time (he was retired). And he cornered like a madman on that thing....speaking of which I got the pegs down on the on-ramp Sunday...well May Lees foot actually  Wink...oops  Cool

For $2500 you might want to consider the CB1000F (Hurricane) -large solid bikes....though thinking of Steves maybe they have some issues....if it was me Id try and find a cheap Suzuki Bandit 1200. I saw one in March in NH go for $3000 with bags. Good solid tourer but not in the goldwing mode.

If you pony up another $500 you might get a half-decent BMW (80`s model) for that money but Ben is the expert there.

Good luck and keep us posted!

cheers
Andy

Scott, you don't have a dog do you??

I'd also check out the Bandit, a lot of bike for short dough. It is a chain drive bike though, and you may want a shaft. After having had both, the shaft requires about as much maintenance once a years as adjusting a chain regularly. If you ride in crummy weather, I'd try to get a shaft. The st1100 would be a great buy if you can find one for that kind of dough. A very good touring bike, smoother than the Concours I think, although harder to find and more expensive. I'd try to get the newest bike you can afford, and although I love my BMW, I think you'd get a lot of problems buying one for $2500.

HAH... I DO have a dog.... But hes a good looking mutt.  I went and took a look at the Honda PC.. it isnt for me.  cool little bike, but all I could think of was having a concours with another 60hp on tap.  I would prefer a shaft drive but it aint a deal breaker. $25-2600 is about the highest I can go.  I am waiting for a call back on a 92 Concours that looks pretty nice.

Hey Scott,

You'll be able to cruise more easily with your dad with something like that, as you guys both share the bike traveling bug, something I envy.
Additionally, Chris has an expert's wisdom concerning the beast, and can probably pass on a couple of pearls concerning what to look for when slapping down green on one of these fellers.

Hope it works out!

And I'll be 1/2 mile behind them, trying to keep up with the scooters...  but then again, the 400 is really a long distance tourer at heart- tennessee or bust! :Smiley
