On Saturday I went for a day trip to Gifu region (lots of mountains) and tried a local summer tradition - flowing somen. Basically, cooked soba noodles are put into a feeding trough and they flow around the trough and you carefully pick out what you want and eat till your full....the water is super-clean mountain water....

...they also had bbq local fresh water fish.....delicious!

Info about Gifu region:

Some info on flowing somen (in general):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S%C5%8Dmen

http://toyohara.com/inaka/somen-e.htm

and here is where I went...

the bbq pit....

the fish...

the noodles...

the rain....

This resteraunt was at the end of the walk to a local waterfall...shown here...

and side view...

Then we went to see the local town of Gujo - famous for its clean water (you can see bottom of river) and waterways among the houses - they are filled with carp and goldfish (huge ones!)

On the left local kids dive off huge rock into the river...

view from other side of bridge

the back streets of Gujo

cheers
Andy
